The full course program
Lecture 1: Pre-surgical prosthodontic planning -
Part I
Here you can watch a five-minute fragment of the lesson.
This first video lesson aims to introduce participants to the topics that will be addressed throughout the course.
Dr Powell describes the purpose and main steps involved in prosthetic restoration with dental implants.
From pre-surgical planning to the evaluation of systemic and local factors, from impression-taking and implant fabrication and design to insertion protocols, each stage is described and explored thoroughly.

In particular, this lesson covers the following topics:
  • The prosthodontic workflow for dental implant restoration
  • Different types of implant restorations: single unit, multiple unit, and full-arch
  • How to achieve implant stability: length, material, diameter, size, emergence profile, depth, and angulation
  • Case selection and treatment planning protocol
  • Restorative workflow: exams, digital records, ct scan, planning, surgery, healing and restoration

Duration: 1 h 41 min
Lecture 2: Pre-surgical prosthodontic planning -
Part II

Here you can watch a five-minute fragment of the lesson.
In this lesson, Dr Powell describes the factors that must be considered and evaluated by the practitioner during the pre-restorative phase.
Special attention is paid to the planning and fabrication of temporaries, and Dr Powell discusses two clinical cases in which pre-surgical planning proved to be an extremely useful tool for achieving an excellent final result.

In particular, this lesson covers the following topics:
  • Parameters of implant health
  • Considerations for provisional implant restorations
  • Provisional implant restoration fabrication (step by step)
  • Impression component selection
  • Implant position planning and restoration insertion
  • Post-operative care and healing phase

Duration: 34 min
Lecture 3: Pre-restorative assessment
Here you can watch a five-minute fragment of the lesson.
This video lesson focuses on the clinical restorative sequence, described by Dr. Powell as structured in 5 basic stages: pre-restorative assessment, impression, design, manufacturing, and insertion.
Participants will gain a thorough understanding of which factors require more attention from the clinician, always bearing in mind that the ultimate goal is to place definitive restorations in the aesthetic area as well.

In particular, this lesson covers the following topics:
  • How to understand when a provisional restoration is needed
  • Pre-restorative assessment: confirmation of osseointegration
  • Assess soft tissue and radiographic appearance of implants
  • Provisional restoration fabrication stage
  • How to identify the proper implant platform diameter and the correct abutment connection type

Duration: 37 min
Lecture 4: Final impressions for single-unit implant restorations
Here you can watch a five-minute fragment of the lesson.
In this presentation, Dr Powell describes in depth the impression-taking protocol for creating single-unit restorations, as well as the main differences between an analogue and a digital workflow and the advantages and simplicity of the latter.

In particular, this lesson covers the following topics:
  • How to provide enough info for the dental lab to fabricate the restoration
  • Impression taking protocol: analog vs digital workflow
  • Component selection between replica, open tray, closed tray, scan body and ios replica
  • Conventional impression concept: open vs closed tray
  • Image capture and scanning strategy: use and purpose of scan bodies
  • Poor scan strategies, bite interferences, distorted scan bodies, and other common errors

Duration: 1 h 22 min
Lecture 5: Design considerations for implant restorations - Part I
Here you can watch a five-minute fragment of the lesson.
Through this presentation, participants will understand how the clinician has an extremely active and primary role in guiding the laboratory in the fabrication of the implant restoration.
Dr Powell illustrates the possible options to choose from: diameter, angulation, depth, platform, emergence profile, components, and materials.
In order to achieve optimal restorations from both a functional and aesthetic perspective, it is crucial to select the best components and materials, such as abutments and crowns made from zirconia, glass ceramic, or titanium.

In particular, this lesson covers the following topics:
  • The design of dental implant restorations
  • Different options for implant crowns
  • Vertical VS horizontal emergence profiles
  • Modifiable restorative parameters: emergence profile, components & materials, morphology, and occlusion
  • Parameters to consider when choosing components and materials: prosthetic longevity and biological response
  • Materials: zirconia, glass ceramic or titanium

Duration: 58 min
Lecture 6: Design considerations for implant restorations - Part II
Here you can watch a five-minute fragment of the lesson.
In this video lesson, Dr Powell discusses the parameters to consider when choosing materials and components for your restorations: aesthetics, retrievability, and cost.
Dr Powell shows several clinical cases in which he used different types of crowns: anterior implant crowns, posterior implant restorations, and long posterior implant restorations.

In particular, this lesson covers the following topics:
  • Aesthetics: the degree of translucency of the material and its color
  • Retrievability: cement-retained vs screw-retained
  • Custom abutment vs stock abutment
  • Angulated screw channel abutment
  • Morphology and occlusion design of the restoration

Duration: 1 h 24 min
Lecture 7: Manufacturing for implant restorations
Here you can watch a five-minute fragment of the lesson.
The communication between the clinician and the laboratory technician is thoroughly investigated in this lesson.
Dr Powell discusses all stages of the fabrication process, distinguishing between digital and analog workflows, and presents a clinical case managed with a fully digital protocol.

In particular, this lesson covers the following topics:
  • Lab communication and prescriptions
  • Analogue workflow
  • Digital workflow
  • 3D printing process and 3D printed models

Duration: 50 min
Lecture 8: Insertion of single-unit implant restorations
Here you can watch a five-minute fragment of the lesson.
In this lesson, Dr Powell discusses the insertion of an implant supported crown, focusing on the importance of examining the restoration prior to the appointment day with the patient.
Particular attention is paid to the evaluation of the interproximal contact points and to the need to modify the emergence profiles.

In particular, this lesson covers the following topics:
  • Interproximal contact points: open contact vs tight contact
